greetings to all of you.i really really need ur help figuring me out what is really happening and how to overcome this problem.

yesterday, my roommate brought me an old RAM of his. i already had one inside my pc, 128 mb and his was 32 mb. it were both SDram but i realized that one was pc100 and the other was pc113.but i let him plugged it in his RAM anyway.

sadly, he took out my 128 mb and plugged both rams into the ddr slot (supposed 2b in the sd one).n the pc wont boot.only long beeps with short pauses came out. then, realizing our mistake, we took out the rams and plugged them in the sd slot. but still the pc wont boot. i tried putting back my 128 mb ram, just like the way it was before,without the my friend's 32mb, but still the problem persisted.

please. i really really need your help. i really want to know how bad is this problem and how possible can i repair it.

Odd, I never heard of any problem like that before. Atleast after putting the system back to normal. First, make sure every component (especially the RAM) is inserted correctly. Even though RAM only goes in one way it is easy to screw it up and put it in backwards thinking it is in correctly, or not putting it in all the way. If problem persists you might have f'ed up your RAM.

hi , you have two ways :

1 ) test your ram in other sd slots

2 ) clear your CMOS by jumper or removing CMOS battery from your MB and REMOVE your Power cable of your pc for 10 min .

I tried testing my ram in different slots and tried clearing the cmos but nothing appears to happen. my pc still won't boot. there are no normal beeps. nothing's on the monitor. after a period of time, it would produce long endless beeps with short pauses.

and i also don't think it's only that my ram is messed up, because i tried putting on a ram from my other friend. it turned out that it works as normal in his pc but not in mine. maybe it's not the ram

Believe or not long beeps are signs of bad RAM or keyboard error. I'm not a hardware pro but does speed of a type of RAM cause incompatibility problems?

I agree with Amir, but if it is a continous beep it could be your power supply

Speed of RAM can cause incompatibility problems under certain conditions.
1) The motherboard doesn't support that speed if the RAM is too fast or too slow.
2) You have multiple sticks of RAM and one of them is at a different speed than the rest. If this happens I believe every other stick will slow down as well.
3) The speed of the RAM does not match the speed of the FSB. In this case a bottleneck will occur.

Other than that I don't think speed would kill anything. Unless you accidently fried your mobo. Maybe it wasn't in place and you finally did something to jar it out of place. Check your other parts in another computer and check out a new PSU as well.
