here is one about my dell laptop . my wireless connection speed is 11.0 mbps , that seems really slow to me . Im using a link sys 2.4 ghz broadband router , 10/100 lynk sys network hub and a westell wirespeed modem . second question , how do i change the commit charge ? if there is a way to do it from task manager i cant figure it out .And lastly , every time i visit cyberia pc my laptop runs really slow and every new window a message pops up "a script on this page may be busy , or may have stopped responding. you can stop the script now , or you can continue to see if the script will complete" . ive updated java and adobe . what extension does this page use that i might be missing ?

you can't/ need not change the commit charge.
assuming that u have not specifically set the page file size, the upper limit would be the size of windows drive!
If the peak value under commit charge is higher than the total under physical memory then adding more RAM will help. (quoted from
here.)
is ur flash updated? get process explorer from download.com & see if you can find source of cpu consumption!

im about to throw this dell through the window just to see how far it will fly . ive installed adobe air ,flash player plugin , media player and shock wave player 11 and when i go this page i still get a message "a script on this page may be busy , or may have stopped responding. you can stop the script now , or you can continue to see if the script will complete" and i went to the flash games pac man was moving like maple syrup . this inspiron 1150 has a intel celeron 2.60 ghz , 311 mhz , 256 mb ram .My commit charg is 142240k/64031 . i ran process explorer and it says that my system idle process is is in the 70.00 to 76.80 range if that means anything . what am i missing here because this computer should be pretty fast , right ?

ok i think system idle is supposed to be that high , so that means nothing .

it looks like a good 30 % is my services .exe

I was sitting here thinking about said laptop , and i realized that ive never heard the fan turn on . its pretty hot right now . that could be a problem ! Is there a way i can turn on the fan in notepad with a command prompt batch file ? just to see if it works ?

well my fan works . i found a program for dell laptops called "I8KANGUI31" . it shows the temps and lets you use manual controls . so i know that works . whats interesting is that it has a cpu speed and load window . it says my cpu speed is around 2603 mhz and the load will spike from 8 % to 100% about every 20 seconds .

ok , two days of research and heres what ive come up with . i found a really good page about my dell problem ."http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=36836" .i did what the page instructed and my dell is working normal again ,and im not having a script problem on this site so it worked . i gather that its a service pack 2 conflict .but my dell laptop is really working ! im so freaking happy.

damn, who could guess?! & damn again because I really liked to know which service is crapping out. you could have expanded the services.exe node to see what's under it. (sometimes first u need to click on "show process tree" on the toolbar). anyway.

Peak value is there to show you how much windows is using the virtual memory & if the value is very large it means that you need to add more RAM. my peak is 400MB so I don't bother.

ok, i just found a very precise explanation of how we can make sense of those commit charge numbers
here.
