Hey all, I have an odd request/question about how I should handle my website.

As of now my website is heavily Javascript base, but it also has a lot of backup of <no script>s just in case people don't have java enabled.

So what I want to do is instead of all the messy and redundant code, simply have two folders on my hosting site, one that is my website with java the other without.

The URL would look like www.christophergriffith.net/java/index.php and www.christophergriffith.net/nojava/index.php

But I don't want the people to see the /java/ or /nojava/ just always simply www.christophergriffith.net/index.php and also so when they type that in they are redirected to the right place.

I can do the redirects no problem, it's shortening the URL that's got me, I really haven't seen or heard of a clean way to shorten the URL for the java or nojava sub directories.

Anybody know of a relatively easy way to do this? It doesn't have to be simple enough for a baby to do it, I just don't want it to be more garbled than just having all the redundant code as like now. Basically I want the site to be cleaner and more efficient. (and if you have any other suggestions for it I am up for those as well biggrin.gif )

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to see what everyone's opinions are for web browsers. Because I am just getting into web design I have had to deal with the major four a lot lately, and have found that they love to hit on each other (go figure). Safari Brags that it has the fastest load times ( http://www.apple.com/safari/ ). But they are only counting FF 2 and Opera 9 not the new 9.5.

So my personal opinion is that Firefox 3 is the way to go, with opera as second, then safari and lastly IE.

Firefox 3:

this was taken at the same time the others were, but with firefox I was able to max out at about 200mbs.
It is clearly faster for speed tests and ping and so on, and page load times take the same or less than safari for me.
Also all the add ons are amazing.

The only bad thing with firefox is how the add-ons can be incompatible so fast.

Opera 9.5:

Not bad speed, but always had horrible ping. Great interface though

Safari:

I really have nothing agaisnt safari, except it seems a bit 'childish' to me and I like a web browser with power. (and customization)

IE 7:

IE did beat others in speed from speed test.net but it has a horrible user interface is my opinion.

(All these were taken at 2pm on standard comcast internet, nothing fancy.)

Other opinions?

Hey guys,

I was just going through the "Way Back Machine" and randomly clicked on an old yahoo page. But when it came up, it was definitely not yahoo. It was March 6th 2001, and it looked like yahoo way hacked on the 5th with other weird stuff.

Normal one on March 1st:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010301043713/.../www.yahoo.com/

March 6th <warning: adult text content, luckily the way back machine doesn't save pics so it's safe, just scary>:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010306050719/http://yahoo.com/

and then the two I later looked at for March 5th:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010305074052/http://yahoo.com/
http://web.archive.org/web/20010322195702/...163.net/500.htm

Does anybody know if yahoo was actually hacked, or did the way back machine just have an error?

Hello everyone,

I am somewhat new to web development. I'm decent at being able to create websites with sql databases and so on, but not so much of the front end with the javascript.

I have code from http://www.jtricks.com/javascript/window/box.html that enables me to have a pop-up within my page, displaying it is not the problem, its trying to close the pop-up that is stumping me and others who tried to help me.

I am using this as a box for logging in and adding comments and so on. I first need to run some php to add their information to their session and then I want to automatically close the pop-up and refresh the page they are on. So I have tried everything from javascript alerts that use
CODE
java script:void(0);
or the function that they specify to use as a onclick
CODE
return show_hide_box(this, 200, 270, '2px solid')
or even
CODE
window.close()

I have used these with form onclick= , echo "<script>...</script>" but it only seems to work when you wrap it in an anchor for a link.

Is there a reason that anyone sees that I am messing up, or is just the code made that it can not be closed unless clicked on a link?

For a basic registry cleaner, I use AML Free Registry Cleaner.

And as Tyreal pointed out, for a fuller program including Spyware removal, registry cleaner, optimizer and so on, Advanced WindowsCare Personal is the program to have.
