Hi,
Have you got a backup power unit connected, or do you think because it says ups service is currebtly stopped it keeps restarting, a ups system is something like a big battery backup unit, if you dont have one of these, that is what it should say,
your pc is more than likely, overheating / bad ram / faulty PSU.causing the restarts.

thanks Bob ; No i dont have a back up power unit . i guess i have confused a UPS with a PSU. Is the message i am seeing (and have quoted) the standard message where a user does NOT have a back up psu connected ?

In which case i will get the PSU checked out .

Hi,
Forget UPS altogether, that is absolutely nothing to do with it. if you don't have it,............ in control panel /power management / ups , it automatically says service is currently stopped?

1. check all your fans are clean and working properly. overheating is normally the main reason for shutdowns

2. check your ram is enough 256mb at least for xp and not gone bad.

3. check that you power supply unit (PSU) is not faulty

PS.
make sure that all your ram / video cards are pressed home firmly
