Nothing Selected




I have a problem with my PC on start up my monitor does not work the screen stays black I have to press and hold the start button on my PC until it shuts down I then unplug the PC power cable wait 5 seconds then plug it back in the PC then starts up and the monitor starts working ok can anyone suggest what is wrong.

check your video card (if not integrated) to see if it is seated correctly. This could be either your video card or the AGP or PCI slot (depending on what you have) on motherboard.

You say monitor does not work, are sure the PC itself is working? Do u hear the beep indicating system boot? Do u think windows is starting? (does HDD make the thrashing sound?)

The video card is a new card I fitted because I thought the problem was the card and yes the computer is working as I said If I switch the computer off by pessing and holding the start button then I unplug the computer from the mains when I plug the mains back in the computer starts automatically and the monitor the works fine.

I think i was not clear enough. Does ur PC pretend to be working while the screen is black? Does it beep? Does HDD make sound?
