Does anyone know if there is a way to preserve your laptop's identity if someone stole it? The scoundrel would go online and if my computer had a specific identity, wouldn't the computer's identity reveal itself? I'm not expressing myself very well, but is there a place to register your vital information where someone could trace it were it stolen???

If I'm not mistaken your MAC address should stay the same.

Yep, AVERT's right. Every network card has a unique MAC address; no two are ever the same.
