As I am majoring in Molecular Biology and therefore have to take pretty much all sciences I thouht that I would post some of my papers up here for anyone with any interest in the sciences to read. Although I want to focus on chemistry in this section I'll probably be starting a psychology thread tomorrow and posting some papers on there if anyone is interested. Anyway, here's one I just wrote on the conversion of sodium benzoate to benzoic acid through reaction with hydrochloric acid. Sounds exciting, eh? It's in PDF format so you'll need Adobe Acrobat to download it!

So does Benzoic Acid effect the human body in any negative way that you know of?? Just wondering. Also, great job explainging why your yield was more than 100%. I was gonna ask you about that but too late

QUOTE(Meker @ Oct 19 2004, 08:10 PM) So does Benzoic Acid effect the human body in any negative way that you know of?? Just wondering. Also, great job explainging why your yield was more than 100%. I was gonna ask you about that but too late Sorry about the really late reply. I know of no harmful effects on the human body from exposure to benzoic acid. All available data on the substance points to no serious health risks in both human and animal subjects through benzoic acid exposure. The Evironmental Health Agency's IRIS (Integrated Risk Information System) Report on benzoic acid can be found here - http://www.epa.gov/iris/subst/0355.htm -------------------- |

As it seems there is some interest in this stuff...
This is a rather extensive report entitled "Dehydration and Gas Chromatography of Methylcyclohexanols." It's on the long side (~5 pages) with lots of pretty pictures! http://members.aol.com/churst5841/CyberiaP...obePDF/lab6.pdf The file size is ~ 1,189 KB and in Adobe PDF format. One more for good measure:
Entitled: "Thin-Layer Chromatographic Analysis of Drug Components" (~4 pages) http://members.aol.com/churst5841/CyberiaP...obePDF/lab5.pdf File Size is ~102 KB and in Adobe PDF format. Questions/Comments -> CHurst5841@gmail.com -------------------- |
