as i said in earlier i installed windows xp home edition somedays back... since i installed xp..theres some problem going on with my net connection...the bytes sent is always higher than the bytes recieved.....this happens inspite of not uploading anything...and that invariably slows down the internet speed somuch so that none of the sites load properly. what must be the error.
also what all changes do i have to make to dual boot again form xp aswell as my previousl loaded windows me system of which i accidently deleted the bootfiles durring installation of xp. -------------------- my system is,

Hi smehete,
Do a ping on your loopback address by going to Start, Run, typing cmd and then ping 127.0.0.1. Are any packets lost? The second test you should do is a traceroute so that you can see where your connection is dropping. Type tracert followed by your ISP's address. If the above two tests don't show any timeouts or significant repsonse times, then check to see if your software is blocking packets from being received (a firewall perhaps). -------------------- ![]() ![]() Things that I don't suck at: Photography (flickr, JPG Mag), "Don't bail; the best gold is at the bottom of barrels of crap!" -Randy Pausch I have people-skills goddamnit! Your ISP could have possibly disabled incoming pings and traceroutes to their server because you shouldn't really be timing out on all hops.
Do you have any software that could be causing the slowdown, such as firewalls or Internet Optimizers? (I've had trouble with them in the past) About your dual-boot question, you will need to add your other OS to the boot.ini file, most likely in C:\boot.ini. See this KB article for more details on how to do that: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q289022 -------------------- ![]() ![]() Things that I don't suck at: Photography (flickr, JPG Mag), "Don't bail; the best gold is at the bottom of barrels of crap!" -Randy Pausch I have people-skills goddamnit!
