I was wondering if someone could help me? I have my computer running through a router, but my problem is that whenever i try and make a multiplayer game of anything, no-one can join? Why is this? My friend usually makes games up and gives me his IP address so that i can join but theres something weird with my ip because im on a router! Any Help?

Hey harriw,
If you're going to be hosting a game through a router, then you'll need to open up certain ports (check the manual) via your router's web interface, which you can access in IE. It might also be worth checking whether you've got DHCP set up or not. If it is then the IP of your machine is dynamically assigned each time you reconnect and you might have to go through the process every time. The alternative of course would be to turn it off and assign your machine a static IP address. hope this helps! -------------------- ![]() ![]() Things that I don't suck at: Photography (flickr, JPG Mag), "Don't bail; the best gold is at the bottom of barrels of crap!" -Randy Pausch I have people-skills goddamnit! Just remember though, by establishing a static IP you make your machine more vulnerable to hackers.

Oops, sorry for missing this post.
What router are you using? The change is made via its web interface where you'll be able to specify either a single port or a range of ports to keep open. And like keno said, your system will be more vulnerable to attacks especially if you don't reverse the settings at the end of a game. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Things that I don't suck at: Photography (flickr, JPG Mag), "Don't bail; the best gold is at the bottom of barrels of crap!" -Randy Pausch I have people-skills goddamnit! Ok finally back.
About the router not working sometimes, I don't have a proper answer, but when that happens every now and again with our home network, I just turn it off and then on again and the Internet works again. You're right harriw, that's the network adaptor and not the router. Your router came with a manual right? Look through it for the ip address of its web interface (mine's 10.0.0.6). You type that into your browser's address bar and you'll got a whole list of settings to edit. Let me know if you're able to at least do that before going any further. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Things that I don't suck at: Photography (flickr, JPG Mag), "Don't bail; the best gold is at the bottom of barrels of crap!" -Randy Pausch I have people-skills goddamnit!
