Nothing Selected

@Bob...Thanks for putting me straight on this section of the fora. original.gif

OK. Most of us have been there....something horrid has occurred and the only way
to get things as they once were is to format the hard disc and re-install Windows!
( This does happen much less frequently with XP; nevertheless it does happen!)

So you've got the OS of your choice up and running on your machine. Now to load those programs that you can't do without. Your favourites, which you either backed up onto CD-R, Zip Drive, or you have the original discs( wink.gif ).
So my absolutely necessary progs are:

1. Zone Alarm Pro v3.0134 which works perfectly "out of the box"

2. NAV2003...Norton Anti-Virus is a "good thing" and necessary.

3. AVG. Yes I know! Another anti-virus program. It was demonstrated to me a couple of years back that Norton misses things that AVG will pick up and vice versa and AVG is FREE! You can use it by itself, it works fine! It's just that I'm paranoid!! rolleyes.gif

4. Finjan Surfin' Guard Pro. Heuristic protection! If you connect to the UseNet and you want to protect yourself against those naughty "script kiddies" this is the way to do it. It will also protect against unknown Virii , trojans and worms by monitoring their behaviour before they destroy your machine! It used to be a free download....but like most good things you now have to pay. Not dear tho' and worth every penny.
You'll find it here http://www.finjan.com/products/surfinguard.cfm

5. MailWasher Pro or the free version MailWasher here http://www.mailwasher.net/download.php
nukes the spam (grrrr...) at the server!

6. As I mentioned elsewhere, jetAudio, a high quality FREE media player that'll play almost everything!! Just try it! It's very easy, no learning curve!!
http://www.jetaudio.com/download/

And finally, ladies and gentlemen... I give you...Capture Express, screen grabber extraordinary...try it free for.....ummmmmm....a month. (Actually I had it for more like four months and then I had to buy it on my Credit card and everything! whistling.gif !)
Get it here: http://www.captureexpress.com/

That concludes my own list of things I really can't do without...What about you??

whistling.gif ... OK, I feel much safer after reading about your virus horror stories. The AVG virus software is really good. The only virus i had was for the NOCD crack for my backup copy of Max Payne ermm.gif .

I also come across a good free firewall. It comes from Sygate. ph34r.gif .

And that Diskeeper is a great defrag prog. My stupid windows defrag kept stopping every minute because it was saying the drive contents keep changing. The Diskeeper worked no trouble at all.
