I have a problem with my ‘mass storage device’.ie a card reader(internal) that I have connected to my system.
Originally I bought a USB2.0 card which came with a lead and three front bay ports.ebuyer However after I bought a digital camera I decided that a reader was the way to go so I bought a USB2.0 six in one reader.IN-WIN I have connected the device to the Usb 2.0 card and when I insert a microdrive or compact flash etc…the drive opens to display my pictures, its fast and really easy, also if I goto ‘my computer’ all six drives are displayed no problem.(so the card and the device are obviously working). On reboot however,no drives are present in ‘my computer’ so I goto system/device manager and I can see a system conflict 'yellow' tab next to the ‘mass storage device’,also it says that there is already another driver present?i have tried to update, used the disc that came with the reader(even though it does say that if you use XP you shouldn’t need it). Now if I either remove the leads from either the card or the bay port reader device then plug em back in,hey presto the drives all magically reappear and the devices work again(with no conflicts)as they should, until I reboot, then iam faced with the same problem? I think that somewhere there is a duplicate driver for mass storage devices, and on reboot the system is trying to allocate both to this device, then its like what now cause it has a conflict of resources? Please help someone,it’s a real pain, for the last month I have had the (full)tower pulled out and everytime I want to upload my pictures, with minimum fuss via the card reader.I have to pull the lead off the back off it,kinda defeats the object of a hassle free picture transfer! Yours faithfully, John (UK) |

Hi
Have you tried deleting it from device manager, then restarting your pc, and letting xp find and install it. I had to do that with my belkin card reader, the drivers on the disc that came with it were rubbish. -------------------- REGARDS

Bob
I have just looked in system32>drivers and there only appears to be one driver there for mass storage devices,so i can't see why i'm getting a problem... Its obviously connected/working ok,because when there isn't a conflict or i uninstall the driver as you instructed then all is fine. Its just after a reboot that i get the problem,so windows must be loading up another driver(corrupt?)from somewhere else,or its just conflicting cause it won't support it properly? I did a search for the driver its' USBSTOR.SYS' that came up with one result, which is what i thought it should have. Do you think that if i 'delete' the above driver from system 32>drivers,that working along the theory that there is another driver there somewhere.I won't cause more problems, and that windows will just use the other driver after a reboot? I think you will find that is the windows xp usb driver, you can try deleting it ,rebooting, then install device, if it asks for driver, use your cd, see if that will work
