I am about to take my exam for HTML and ASP from w3schools . Each exam costs $60.00 . My question is do you guys think that those certificates hold any weight . I dont want to spend the money on something that a employer will laugh his ass off and tell me to haul ass . What do you guys think ?

while in the shower, i came up with this : post a couple of sample test questions (hard ones) or post a list of concepts covered in each exam. then we'll take it from there.

I think spending a few weeks developing something in ASP and then saying that it's a work-in-progress project you're developing in your free time will be more impressive than a certificate. That way, you come across as having initiative, being self-motivated and all that other good stuff.
And for what it's worth, I was reading this article a couple of days ago. QUOTE "At a lower level, the certifications are more important because it's a way to filter. If they work in a technical environment, such as Microsoft, that A+ certification is a way to measure their skills," said Ebner, referring to the CompTIA A+ base-level technician certification.

we are still often asked very application specific questions in interviews. same stuff that we find in certificate exams. (sometimes harder though) so why wouldn't an employer care about a certificate while he still asks the same questions as part of the interview? (or may be they are bunch of mentally ill people?! which is very likely!)
search the web for interview questions & see it for yourself. yet, I'm not saying a personal project is not as impressive if not more. |
