Hey guys,

I was just going through the "Way Back Machine" and randomly clicked on an old yahoo page. But when it came up, it was definitely not yahoo. It was March 6th 2001, and it looked like yahoo way hacked on the 5th with other weird stuff.

Normal one on March 1st:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010301043713/.../www.yahoo.com/

March 6th <warning: adult text content, luckily the way back machine doesn't save pics so it's safe, just scary>:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010306050719/http://yahoo.com/

and then the two I later looked at for March 5th:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010305074052/http://yahoo.com/
http://web.archive.org/web/20010322195702/...163.net/500.htm

Does anybody know if yahoo was actually hacked, or did the way back machine just have an error?

I remember once looking at Yahoo's traffic details on Alexa and noticing a sharp drop in traffic at one point in time - or maybe someone else noticed it first; I can't remember - and someone pointed out that that was because of them being hacked back in 2006 (you can't see it now since Alexa have been recalculating their historical data for a few days). Doing a search on Google seems to indicate that they were hacked back in 2001 too.

Ok, thanks for the info, I just had no clue and if I searched yahoo hacked all I got were tips on how to 'hack' their email and stuff like that.
