I have two PC's. A desktop (SUBARUMAKER) and a laptop (SUBARUMAKERLAP). My desktop is connected to my router (SpeedTouch 585v6) by wire and my laptop is connected wirelessly. My desktop is in my room and only I use it and my laptop is on a table in my kitchen and two other people use it.
From my laptop I can connect to my desktop by everything: Remote desktop, file networking and everything basically... Now from my desktop I could connect to my laptop the same way, everything worked. But recently, I think someone tampered with the laptop, and changed something because from my desktop I cannot get access to my laptop through the network. I checked everything...I even tried turning off the windows firewall. No change. It denies my access...I am trying to connect using my username and password that has admin rights, and i am sure that they are correct because locally, those credentials work. So when I go to start --> Network, I can see all the computers that have network discovery on and that includes my laptop. When I try to connect by double clicking, it asks me for a username and password and disables the username field and uses the last username tried, that being the administrator, because before this thing worked... Here is the picture of what it looks like: ![]() Then when I put the right password for the Administrator it comes with a message that I don't have access rights and then it just closes the window. I tried other usernames by going to users in control panel and "manage your network passwords", but it still says the same thing: ![]() All I want to know is what happened and what settings had been changed so that I can change them back and make everything work again... By the way I have an old laptop (UNUSED) that I have XP on and I tried getting on to the laptop and the exact same thing happened, only that it was using "Guest" as the username and I couldn't change it...so it IS the laptop's settings....something is not right and I need help. Thank you amir! I remember you when I was looking at posts about an year or so ago...
yeh so the real reason I came back to reply was that I found the answer and as always, it was pretty simple. So I took my laptop near my desktop and I opened up Local Security Policy and I compared settings from "Local Policies --> Security Options" because I knew there was SOMETHING changed about the laptop. So in the end I found this option called "Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts", and it was set to "Guest only - local users authenticate as Guest" and this was what was happening, and I think that if I would have enabled the Guest account on the laptop I would have been able to get on but with Guest privileges of course. Then I set the other option of the two which says this : "Classic - local users authenticate as themselves". Now everything works like the way it did before. So I guess now everyone is happy and I will try to get back on this site and answer some more questions because the fact that I can answer my own questions in the end, makes me feel like I'm capable of helping you guys keep this site up! Oke, I guess you read enough, now bye bye! Happy answering! -------------------- Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
