Hi
Try tapping F8 while starting up, select last known working config. if you are using XP select safe mode, then try system restore to a date before this started to happen. hope this helps. If none of these work, one of the other support members might be able to help -------------------- REGARDS

thanks for the advice Bob. unfortunately, it didn't work. it started up in safe mode but when i pressed start or clicked on any of my icons the same error message came up.
I have recorded in greater detail what happens on start-up: As my computer is starting up a task box flashes on the screen - it says updating shortcuts but disapears before i can read any more than that. When my computer eventually does start up an explorer message comes up saying "explorer has caused an error in BROWSEUI.DLL. OK". Incidentally, behind this message it appears that only the basic icons that were on my computer originally are there. any that i have added since aren't there. When i started my computer in safe mode I tried to do some of the things it suggested in help, but as i say the computer wouldn't allow me to click on anything without the above message appearing again. If it's any help i tried pressing Ctrl + Alt + delete as it was starting and it had 2 programs starting called "runonce" & "unregmp2" which i didn't recognise. Should they be on there? Sorry for the hassle, and sorry about the long message. Any more help would be greatly appreciated as I am beginning to think my computer is on it's last legs. Do you think i would have to resort to using the re-boot CD (or would this even work?) Many thanks Paul T |

Hi
First of all, I would think of upgrading to XP, ME is the worst O/S ever for problems. Right, now have a look at this link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=289799 Hope that helps you -------------------- REGARDS
