1. Read The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist
2. Read The Cuckoo's Egg
3. Finish reading Code Complete
4. Finish reading Effective Java
5. Write a game, drawing inspiration from the guy who wrote a game in a week
6. Try out Processing and make some cool data visualization...stuff with it
7. Write something cool and useless with the Flickr API...something like this
8. Finish reading GWT in Practice and then write a webapp using GWT (with the aid of some GUI editor of course)
9. Read Reverse Engineering the Twelve Days of Christmas
10. Read about neural nets in JS (and dig deeper into the script and discussions here - via reddit)
11. Print The 10 "Nos" For Freelancers
12. Participate in this
13. Try out some of the PS techniques here
14. Watch all the ActionScript 3.0 video tutorials here
15. Find a permanent fix for the Spambot attacks on the forums
16. Learn Flex
17. Cash a cheque before it expires...for the second time!
18. Throw Vaio-piece-of-crap-with-dead-battery out the window and get another laptop so I can get some work done when I'm outside the house

That's all I can think of for now. Aaah, that felt so good...and got rid of so many browser windows that I'd left open for months. original.gif

years ago, an experienced fellow programmer watched me bookmarking all the things that I find on web everyday. once when I was at his desk, we found some very lengthy helpful article online but as soon as we were done some specific part that we needed for that day, he closed the window. when i asked him why he did not bookmark such a rare article, he replied that "bookmark it or not , you will never find time to read it again."

now it's been a long while since that day & i'm having a hard time proving myself that he was wrong! (i won't give up though!)

anyway, since I know you will not get to step 15 anytime soon, I strongly recommend that you move #15 to the top.

also, next time don't hybernate with browser windows open all over the place. assuming ur using FF, right click on a tab & ask for "bookmark all tabs"!!! sweet, eh? then you don't even need to bother to make a list !

Very true. Now that I think about it, I don't ever remember going through my bookmarks, and usually when I do, I tend not to find what I'm looking for.

I promise to fix the spam issue once and for all this evening, right after I get home. How about that.

Triple Tetris Champion!

My list would consist of:
1. Revise
2. Finish reading all the books I've taken out of the library before the due date

That's it. I think I'm slowly getting through number 2, but number 1 has some sort of barrier which prevents me from touching a book.

Popped open the hood, messed around with a few things, added in a few things, let's see what happens now...fingers crossed.

This will determine if what you say is true. Please answer the following question:

Are you an automated bot?

ok, i happen to find myself doing all the things i always planned to do, regularly. it's just i do them with some delay. the secret behind my success is that after a period that I put them off, i start to hate myself & get mad at myself to the point that the next day, the job is actually done!

so you just have to search for that internal source of self-hatred to get to that so-called eternal peace !

btw, there is one fundamental flaw in this method & that is the delay. like spring loading! you need that delay to accumulate enough anger which could be sometimes released at the wrong time! (like swearing at the honking driver or kicking the automatic door of the subway train. no i never did that). that actually can waste days or even months of hard spring loading !

disclaimer : this is not considered a healthy habit by some psychiatrics. please consult your physician before following this advice. the author can not be held responsible for any consequences including (but not limited to), broken legs, damages to the public property or chronic anxiety.

I think this a trend between us programmers.

If I don't do the above method, I will just spend days thinking about the problem or exactly how I will execute the task without really doing. The good thing about this is that I know exactly how to do the task, but most of the time I use the above moethod lol.

depending on what industry u will join, that habit of planning for a few days before taking any action, can help or destroy ur professional future!

there are companies where you are rewarded to plan & then take action since they know building on top of pile of crap is not smart. on the other hand, there are places where the goal is to patch the existing code base as soon as possible & get the function to work TODAY for TODAY! you would never ever need to think about what the future is holding for the company!
