 I've got two PC's connected via ethernet. The Laptop is running XP and the Desktop WIN98 SE. Both PC's use the same Workgroup. The Desktop can read the files on the Laptop but not the other way around. I've set the C Drive for sharing and the Network access is set up for sharing files and printers. The Laptop sees the Desktop in it's Workgroup but when I click on it I get a messge saying that I may not have the access permission and the 'Parameter is incorrect'. Can anybody help please!

Do you have a user on the 98 machine?
If not, create a user on that machine then logon as that user (you don't even have to have a password, just a logon). From there, the machines should be able to access the files on each other. |

Keno (and Paul) - thanks for your response. I didn't have a User set up on the 98 PC and have done so now. Unfortunatley this has not solved the problem. However, I appreciate you taking the time to make the suggestion.

I will have to take a look at our setup at home. We have virtually the same setup as you (except the desktop is XP and the laptop is 98) so I will look into what we have done a little further and see if I can suggest some things.
In the mean time, on the Sharing tab of the directory properties, what is the Access type set to? |

No problem.
Is netbios enabled on both machines? Are the IP numbers of both machines 192.168.something.something? |
