I've been using NAV 2004 for a long while & i was happy with it. Since i could not install a pro version on a 2003 windows, i switched to free AVG which again i am happy with (other than the redundant GUI).
I have no idea what AVG pro offers but NAV has a script blocking feature along with some other things in the latest version. Some ppl complained about NAV 2006 messing up with some other softwares. Try searching for online reviews. There are lots. AdAware & SpyBot search & destory are things that were good enough for me. |

I used Norton 2004 for a while but realised it was mostly just bloat-ware so I ditched that and got my self a copy of AVG free, and i say its a very good free anti-virus.

i used AVG,the updates are huge if i can recall,1 or 2 mb and their not frequent, Avast updates everyday with very small file updates so its real fast, EVERYDAY theres an update,no wonder it gets 100% on those tests, plus AVG doesnt have many real time scaners,Avast has a network shield,a layer of protection against worms to if anythin should get past your firewall,Avast home edition is better than all the full priced antiviruses IMO,i have trend micro, norton 2005, their rip offs,1 year and u have to pay again just to keep it running...boo lol

Judgment is not easy! & We sometimes miss some points. We need to look for several reviews first like This one.

gezz avast didnt do as good as the others, but thats 2003,it got 100% detection recently so thats a positive,NOD32 seems like a damn good antivirus, but nothing from that review is from this year.
plus this 100% Virus Bulletin award July 3, 2006 - In the latest Virus Bulletin tests (June 2006, Windows XP) avast! 4 Pro again detected all ItW viruses (i.e. viruses known to be 'in the wild') and was given another VB100% award and thats the new 4.7 i still think avast is the best, been around the longest , 8 real time scanners for pro 7 real time scanners for home and worm suppression, web shield, scans every site u visit for anything dodgy. |

lol im not either,i just hate formating over and over just coz of some virus that ruined my comp and installing over 30GB of backed Up programs, music files etc,so i like to be safe and Avast is the most reliable, Trend Micro and Norton have let me down in the past.

What is the best free anti-virus program?
I am looking for an antivirus for my new laptop. I am looking for something that is not heavy and resources hogging as I do not have very much RAM. I know there are many of them, such as McAfee and Norton, but I do not know which one is the best and which one is free. -------------------- |
