Does the Drive even recognize disks? ex: if you put in an install disk, can you actually install it?
If it does skip the following [ You could try inserting a bootable disk and see if the computer will recognize it even if windows does not. (make sure CD is set to boot in the bios, and that you can actually see the CD drive in the bios.) If that doesn't work it is most likely hardware (it could still be software, but if it isn't recognized it usually is hard ware. Make sure all the cables are plugged in tight and that the jumpers are set in the right configuration. When it's none of the above it is generally a bad drive or bad I/O configuration. ] If the DVD drive is recognized and just not writing it is probably a software error. What O/S are you running, if it is XP that might be why you cannot copy and paste onto it. I would first try some free burning software to see if it can even burn anymore. like http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php If you get any results just post what you can and can't do. If any of this doesn't make sense too you please tell me and I will elaborate. -------------------- |

My drive recognizes cd's. Any time I try and copy files I get this message "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this/these files." I also have Magix Photostory editing program and it is giving me an error message when I try to burn the slideshow, it says "Encoding can not be done. Files can not be found" that never happened before. All of the exporting problems with all programs stopped working at the same time. My computer doesn't seem to be effected by a virus, everything works fine except for exporting on D drive. Another suggestion is to just try disabling the CD/DVD-Rom drive in device manager, restart windows, enable it, restart again, and it might reconise it as a new drive and set new parameters that might solve the problem. (you may not even have to restart the second time.)
Or you could always try the direct approach and unplug the drive, start up the computer, shut it down, reconnect, then start it back up and see if that works. -------------------- |

I think that it is a Registry problem, files are invalid, missing, empty Key.... Those are the results of a Registry scan that I did with Uniblue Registry Booster 2, I downloaded that for free then did a scan. It found over 800 errors and will only fix 15 of them unless I purchase the whole version for $30.00. It sounds sneaky to me... Who do I know if this downloadable program can even fix what is wrong.. PLEASE HELP. Oh, my "D" drive finally recognized picture files I was trying to burn and I was able to copy them to a disk. I am still having problems trying to burn a cd in Windows Media player with error message "Interface is not registered." I uninstalled Magix Photostory and then reinstalled it and I am still having problems burning the slide show from that program. It says it can not encode files. Files not found. This is sooooo frustrating, I don't know anything about Drivers, registries....... |

there are still things we suggested and u never tried I restored my system back three months and I am still having the problem. The program that I use to make photo stories doesn't have the option to undo/ revert back registry changes. The drive that I have is less than 2 years old, it came with the Dell Dimension E310 that I got. I only use and have that 1 drive to burn. I have Windows XP and I was always able to go into pictures select them and then open up the "D" drive then paste. It worked that way also...or select copy to disk. I do not understand any of this and I am afraid I am going to make things worse on my computer... haha |

i mean the registry booster software. these softwares usually make backups before messing up with registry. check all options to see if there is any way to undo changes from the backup it may have created.
can you drag and drop files other than images to your cd-rom drive? try some other type of file, not an image. |

people on other web sites are saying that registering some DLL again will fix the media player problem but i doubt it has anything to do with burning cds.
anyway, from start menu, choose Run, type CMD push enter copy/paste this : regsvr32.exe wmp.dll in the window that opens push enter check if there comes an error message. |
