is it ok on a new labtop to leave it in a hot car all day with the windows up? I don't do it often but I was just wondering if it's ok, what components are it hard on and how will it affect the life of my labtop?

Silicon devices live happily within a certain temperature range. If you go over or under you run the risk of killing them. Display screens have an even narrower range (not based on facts, just experience).

It depends on how hot it is. I once left my cell phone in the car when it was about 45C outside and two hours later the screen had died.

Like Ali said it depends on the temperature. But just so you know I have done that on multiple occasions. I left my laptop, in the a black case mind you, for days on end in the summer and winter as well. It isn't a good idea to do that but I did by mistake and its fine.
