PHP Array, How to create an array in PHP Options

Somebody please tell me the way to create an array in PHP as we are doing in VB 6.

VB 6
dim a(2) as string
a(0)="hello"
a(1)="world"

PHP
??

Please tell me whether it is possible to do exactly the same thing ? Please give me an example. If not, then please show me the alternative(s) to store the data in the same way as we in VB 6.
